Appeal to the Canadian Government: Stop the Executions!

Penkyi of Sayka County, 21 years old, was sentenced to death for taking part in protests on March 14, 2008
Chinese authorities are carrying out a wave of brutal and secret trials against Tibetan political prisoners who allegedly took part in the Lhasa protests last March. Earlier this month, Lobsang Gyaltsen and Loyak were sentenced to death for allegedly starting fires. Two others, Phuntsok and Kangtsuk, were also sentenced to death but with a two year reprieve, and Dawa Sangpo was sentenced to life imprisonment.

On April 21, we learned that three young Tibetan women were tried for their involvement in protests in Lhasa as well. Among them, 21 year old Penkyi of Sakya County was sentenced to death for "starting fires in two downtown clothing shops on March 14,” according to state-run media. 23-year old Penkyi from Nyemo County and 20-year old Chime Lhamo were each sentenced to life imprisonment and 10 years in prison each for their role in the same fire.
