This July 6th, Work for Tibet!

This July 6th, His Holiness the Dalai Lama turns 75 years old. We at Students for a Free Tibet Canada celebrate this important milestone by rededicating ourselves to Working for Tibet until Tibet is free.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama has worked tirelessly on behalf of the Tibetan people for many decades. On this special day we recognize his sacrifice and also highlight the dedication of SFT Canada’s supporters who through their Work for Tibet, teach us how to be leaders in politics, in the community and in school.

Cheri Di Novo, MPP – High Park/Parkdale, a staunch Tibet supporter in the Ontario Legislature, has pledged her contribution towards our Stop Mining in Tibet campaign and non-violent direct actions. "Students for a Free Tibet is an incredible grassroots organization. I have had the pleasure of working with SFT Canada in bringing the issue of Tibet to the Ontario Legislature. We were successful passing a motion in the House in 2008 during Beijing’s Olympic year, calling for human rights in Tibet. I continue to raise the issue of Tibet and the Tibetan people as I believe in the right to self determination for the Tibetans. This year, in honour of His Holiness the Dalai Lama's 75th birthday on July 6, I am continuing my support for Tibet by donating my pay raise of $1000 to SFT Canada."

Jordhen Chazotsang, graphic designer, veteran activist and member of the SFT Canada Board of Directors works relentlessly to keep SFT on the forefront of the Tibet Freedom Movement with wit and style to boot! This is Jordhen-la’s second year of participating in Work for Tibet Day, and his contribution will go towards SFT Canada’s work in training and mentoring young activists and future leaders of our community. This includes developing an ACTION CAMP FUND to help fund an SFT Action Camp in Canada where young Tibetans and Canadians can come to learn the skills and knowledge to become leaders in the Tibetan Freedom Movement.

Urgen Sangye, George Brown College, 4th year, is a SFT Toronto member and SFT Canada’s summer student intern. Urgen was first inspired to join SFT Canada after he heard Lhadon Tethong, Former Director of SFT International speak at his high school in 2005. Fast forward a few years and Urgen is now an active member of the organization, and in 2009 he received media training, and other action camp training from Lhadon and Tendor. Recently Urgen took a leadership role in fundraising drives including the Rangzen Circle and Losar Greetings, volunteered at the Toronto Tibet Film Festival, and contributed over 200 volunteer hours in organizing awareness initiatives, protests, and fundraising events. This July 6th, Urgen dedicates his day’s wages as a summer intern to young Tibetans who believe that Tibet will be Free.

We ask that you join Cheri, Jordhen and Urgen and pledge your support by Working for Tibet on July 6th as we celebrate all those who lead by example and teach us human values such as freedom, non-violence and justice.
