International Human Rights Day: December 10th

This December 10th, show your solidarity with Tibetans inside Tibet by organizing an activity in your local chapter calling for human rights in Tibet. Tibet support groups around the world are planing creative actions on this important day. Make your mark and show your chapter's commitment to seeing the Tibet crisis end. We suggest the following actions:

Leaving Fear Behind Screening

Screen the most powerful statement from Tibetans inside Tibet before the March uprising. Lay Tibetans from monks, to children to nomads speak openly of their suffering under Chinese occupation. Now that Tibetans are silenced by China's brutal crackdowns, this is the last free expression we have of the Tibetan people's desire for freedom.

It's a good idea to invite any political allies (other campus groups, politicians etc). Since this film is only 20 mins, follow it up with a discussion with the audience or a question/answer period.

ITSN (International Tibet Support Network) has prepared the following materials for us to use:
1) Advocacy letter that you can have the audience sign
2) Posters for the movie showing (Color LFB poster, B&W LFB poster)
3) How to do a screening handout
4) 50th anniversary campaign handout

Flash mob: Tibet Tibet! Raise your flag!

Show your solidarity with Tibetans inside Tibet who bravely raised the Tibetan flag this spring - get a group of friends and Tibet supporters together and do a flash mob photo with the Tibetan flags. Raise dozens or hundreds of flags together at key landmarks in your community and send us your photos. This is a simple but powerful way of showing Tibetans inside Tibet that the fight they started continues outside Tibet.

All you need are flags, a camera and friends - be sure to invite local media including campus newspapers! If you don't have flags and want to rush order some from SFT Canada, please let us know ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it right away so we can post it on our website.

Projection Action

This is a great way to project a huge image of HHDL or the Tibetan map or the Tibetan flag on any building. Do a show on your campus or a city landmark. They're super easy - just do a test run before the show starts! To receive SFT's projection manual, please email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Boycott Made in China

As Canadians get ready to their holiday shopping, why not ask them to do it ethically? Set up a mock sweatshop outside a major shopping centre. Dress up as a big teddy bear. Do any eye-catching political theatre you can think of. Hand out pamphlets and ask Canadians to not buy made in China this Christmas. Visit the SFT's boycott made in China page for more resources.

Candle-light Vigil

In the evening, wrap up your busy day with a solemn candle-light vigil to commemorate those who continue to suffer inside Tibet. Read out the names of political prisoners or victims of the occupation of Tibet. Read a poem by Woeser or other Tibetan dissidents. Hand out petitions to passer-by and attendees. Have a musical friend? Ask them to sing a freedom song for Tibet.
